13. WebEquipe AI Alt Text for Images
This section explains what data is processed when you use the WebEquipe AI Alt Text for Images WordPress plugin (“the plugin”). The plugin has two modes.
13.1 Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) mode
In BYOK mode, the plugin sends images directly from your website to the AI provider you choose (OpenAI, Anthropic or Google) using your own API key. None of this data passes through WebEquipe’s servers. The provider’s own terms and privacy policy apply to that processing.
13.2 WebEquipe Credits mode
In Credits mode, your website sends requests to our service at https://aialttext.webequipe.com (“the Credits service”). The rest of this section applies to Credits mode only.
Data we receive
For each image you ask the plugin to describe, your site sends us:
- the public URL of the image and its WordPress attachment ID;
- the image caption and description, used as context for the alt text;
- the style setting and the minimum and maximum alt-text length;
- your website’s domain and the callback address we send the result to;
- your Freemius install ID and license ID, and the API token that authenticates your site;
- a random per-site secret that we use only to sign our reply to your site.
We do not receive your visitors’ personal data, your WordPress user accounts, or your site content beyond the fields above.
Data we create and store
- Account record: your domain, Freemius identifiers, plan, credit balance and usage, and the email address and name that Freemius provides for your installation.
- Request logs: a record of each request and result (including the generated alt text, status and credits used). API keys, tokens and the per-site secret are removed from logs. Logs are deleted automatically after 90 days.
- Temporary image copy: to let the AI provider read your image, we make a resized JPEG copy in temporary Amazon S3 storage (ap-southeast-1, Singapore). The copy is available to the AI provider by link while the job runs and is deleted when the job finishes.
How we use it
To generate alt text and return it to your site, to count and bill credits, to prevent abuse, to diagnose problems and provide support, and to meet legal obligations.
Who we share it with
- OpenAI (https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy): receives the temporary image copy and the context text so it can write the alt text.
- Amazon Web Services (S3): stores the temporary image copy.
- Railway: hosts the Credits service (US West, California).
- Freemius (https://freemius.com): handles account connection, licensing and checkout. Its privacy policy is at https://freemius.com/privacy/. Usage data is shared with Freemius only if you opt in.
We do not sell your data.
International transfers
Data may be processed in the United States (Railway, US West – California), in Singapore (temporary image storage) and in other countries by our providers.
Retention
Request logs: 90 days. Temporary image copies: deleted when the job finishes. Account records: kept while your license is active and deleted immediately when it is cancelled, unless the law requires longer.
Cookies and tracking
The plugin sets no cookies and has no analytics or telemetry of its own.
Your rights and contact
You may ask us to access, correct or delete the data we hold about your site, or object to its processing, by emailing support@webequipe.com.
AI-generated content
Alt text is generated by AI and may be inaccurate. Please do not submit images that contain personal, confidential or sensitive information unless you are authorised to share them.
